Nuance and Domino’s Win 2015 MediaPost Appy Award
Award Recognizes Dom, the Virtual Assistant within the Domino’s Pizza App, the First Retail and Restaurant App to Feature Voice Ordering, Powered by Nuance
BURLINGTON, Mass., – June 9, 2015 – Nuance Communications, Inc. today announced that Dom, the virtual assistant created by Nuance and Domino’s for the Domino’s USA mobile app, has won the 2015 MediaPost Appy Award in the Restaurants/Food/Beverage category. MediaPost’s Appy Awards honor extraordinary applications on all platforms: mobile, social and web in a diverse range of categories.
The virtual assistant, Dom, within the Domino’s app was created through close collaboration between Domino’s, the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, and Nuance, the leading provider of voice and language solutions for businesses and consumers around the world.
Dom, the virtual ordering assistant, appears when customers launch the Domino’s app and offers to help take their order – all through voice, as opposed to tapping and scrolling through tiny menus on the mobile phone. Marking a first within both traditional and e-commerce retail, Dom is an extension of the Domino’s brand and allows customers to order their food more easily than ever, without feeling rushed, and while also making the experience fun. Dom’s persona is powered by Nuance’s Nina, an intelligent virtual assistant that leverages speech recognition, speech synthesis and natural language understanding technologies. Domino’s ad agency partner, CP+B, contributed Dom’s look, personality scripts and “vanity commands.”
