Nuance’s Dragon TV Brings Voice to DIRECTV
DIRECTV Customers Can Search for Content and Navigate Programming by Speaking
BURLINGTON, Mass., – August 12, 2013 – Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced that the new DIRECTV Voice Search feature for the DIRECTV App, which is currently in beta and available from Google Play and the App Store, is powered by Nuance’s Dragon TV voice technology. DIRECTV now enables consumers to quickly and easily search for program information and content with their Android or iOS phones whether they are at home or on the go—all simply by using their voice.
DIRECTV is delivering its consumers a natural, conversational digital living room experience by integrating Nuance’s voice recognition and natural language understanding capabilities into its mobile app. Dragon TV turns people’s smartphones into an intuitive and intelligent DIRECTV remote that lets people find shows and movies among the hundreds of channels and thousands of programs, as well as perform basic TV functions with simple commands.

- “Find the episode of How I Met Your Mother with Katie Holmes”

The new DIRECTV Voice Search feature for the DIRECTV App is currently available as part of a nationwide beta and is compatible with both iPhone/iPod touch and Android devices. For customers to enjoy the full benefit of the Voice Search they will need to download the DIRECTV Mobile App from the App Store or Google Play to their smartphone and have a broadband connected HD DVR (HR24+) in their home.
